Hi DataMatrix,

Great HOWTO and thanks a lot for the files, I was beginning to get very tired of trying various images around the net that hang at/around the grub stage or don’t boot!

To get eth0 to work you’ll have to delete the references to the mac address of the original Alix 3D3 that this was built on, here:

/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Deleting the whole file is OK – it will be regenerated later, then everything works a treat.

I’ll check my flash drive to see what’s in there, maybe it’s my mistake. For now my ALIX is broken and I don’t have the money for a new one, so the project is on hold.

Forget my last comment. I found the problem. I don’t know if it was a selfmade problem or a type in your /boot/grub/menu.lst.

Instead of

... root=/dev/sda1 label=rootfs ...

it was

... root=label=rootfs ...

Hi,

thank you for publishing your work! The setup you described worked like a charm on my alix d3d.

The last open task is to get the network-card working. Maybe you have a hint for me. I get a “device does not exist” when trying to start eth0.

The video card was working out of the box with a monitor, I just plugged in a VGA monitor and it worked but I had to compile a custom kernel (I’ve wrote about it this or the previous article) to get rid of the hanging without monitor when initialising the kernel.

Hi,

Were you able to get the Video Card working? I just bought an Alix 3D3 board and was hoping to set it up as a thin client terminal.
